The MassHire Franklin Hampshire Career Center (MassHire FHCC) provides employment and training opportunities for In-School and Out-of-School youth and young adults ages 14-24 in collaboration with our community partners in the Franklin, Hampshire and North Quabbin Regions.  To learn more about youth services, ask to speak with the Youth Programs Coordinator at the Career Center.  Let us help you:

  • Explore career goals and available jobs
  • Assess your interests and skills
  • Learn about available jobs and get help with searching and applying for jobs
  • Career Center Job Search Workshops (resume and cover letter writing, online job search, Financial Education)
  • Connecting with Career Center services, partner youth services, and other community resources to assist with education, training, and employment

FHCC partners with Community Action Pioneer Valley Youth Programs (insert link) to provide services for our WIOA Youth and YouthWorks programs.

WIOA Youth Program

The Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) is a federally funded youth positive program that provides long-term assistance to young people both in-school and out-of-school ages 14-24 in educational development, career exploration, gaining work experience, and achieving successful employment.  WIOA Youth Services include:

  • Explore career goals and available jobs
  • Assess your interests and skills
  • Assistance in obtaining a High School equivalency, high school diploma, or college education
  • Career and job planning, coaching, and counseling
  • Job readiness through education, training, and paid work experience
  • Help in writing a resume and cover letter
  • Job search assistance and connecting to employers
  • Learn if running your own business is right for you
  • Financial education
  • Assistance in overcoming barriers to education and employment

Northampton YouthWorks

YouthWorks is a state funded job readiness and employment program for youth living in Northampton.  The Summer YouthWorks Program serves youth ages 14-21 and the year round program serves those 17-21 years old.  Youth participate in Job readiness workshops to enhance their employability and are then placed in paid internships at worksites in the Northampton area.

In addition to operating the WIOA and YouthWorks programs, Community Action also offers youth and young adults a wide range of services including:

  • Leadership development
  • Generation Q
  • Youth empowerment
  • Other youth training and employment services
  • Support services

School-to Career Connecting Activities 

MassHire Franklin Hampshire Workforce Board provides services for high school students in the Franklin, Hampshire and North Quabbin areas who wish to achieve more learning hours by extending the classroom to the workplace.  The School-to Career program offers internships, job shadows, professional skills development, and job fair attendance as part of its service.  Ask the guidance counselor in your school to learn more about the program or contact the Connecting Activities Coordinator for more information:

Job Corps

Job Corps is a no-cost education and vocational training program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps low income young people ages 16-24 improve the quality of their lives by empowering them to get great jobs and become independent.  There are several Job Corps training sites in Massachusetts and New England.  Information Sessions are held here at MassHire Franklin Hampshire Career Center in Greenfield every 3rd Thursday of the month from 1pm-3pm.  Job Corps program services include:

  • Education and training in a wide range of careers – trades, medical, technology, manufacturing, driving/transportation, hospitality, culinary arts
  • Work based learning
  • Free housing, food, medical/dental, and a clothing stipend

This residential based program takes from 9 – 24 months to complete depending on your interests.
